How it Works
Creating an intense “photoacoustic” impact in trillionths of a second, PicoPlus uses 4 different wavelengths to specifically target the tattoo pigment for better clearance in fewer treatments. The lack of thermal effect helps to avoid damage and scarring of the skin.
The 1064nm wavelength targets black and blue tattoo inks, while the 532nm wavelength offers effective treatment of red, yellow and orange inks. 660nm wavelength is effective in targeting stubborn green and violet ink and 595nm may be required for more challenging blue inks.
PicoPlus has highest peak power available and can treat all kinds of tattoos and colours faster and easier than Q- Switched Lasers and other Pico lasers.
How many treatments are required?
Most tattoos can be considerably diminished and many can be completely removed. For most tattoos a course of 4-8 sessions is required with at least 6 weeks between each treatment. The number of treatments will depend on the age, size, colour and location of the tattoo as well as the type and depth of the ink pigment.
Is it painful?
Laser tattoo removal typically involves some level of discomfort. Most people report that it is comparable to having a tattoo applied. With the shortest pulse duration, PicoPlus operates with less discomfort and lower risk of side effects. Skin numbing can be used to reduce pain. This can involve cold air, ice pack or topical cream such as EMLA cream.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects can be expected after treatment but these are temporary. There is an immediate whitening of the area treated which typically lasts for several minutes. Short term effects can include reddening, bruising and / or blistering. Patients receive pre- and post-care instructions prior to treatment.
