Port Wine Stains
Port wine stains are typically present from birth, with 3 in every 1000 people being affected by this condition. Most port wine stains appear on the face, neck or limbs and in 85% of cases these coloured ‘stains’ are localised to one side of the body. They will range in size from a few millimetres to several centimetres in diameter.
While the cause of port wine stains is unknown, it is assumed that the port wine stains appear due to an over functioning of the nerves that control the contracting of the capillaries. As such the vessels distend, contributing to the distinctive nature of the port wine stains.
Ever Clinic is headed by Dr Cormac Convery, a pioneer and leader in the world of aesthetic medicine. His extensive experience of lasers, coupled with Ever Clinic’s industry leading equipment, the Lutronic DermaV, represent the gold standard when it comes to treatment.

FAQ’s About Port Wine Stains At Ever Clinic
What is a port-wine stain?
A port wine stain is a type of ‘birth-mark’, composed of distended or dilated blood vessels.
What happens if I leave my port wine stain untreated?
If left untreated, the port wine stains can result in increased tissues mass as the patient ages, as well as increased vascular nodule development. The port wine stain is more susceptible to bleeding or haemorrhaging and facial features can be distorted – this can cause additional emotional and social problems for the affected patient.
How long does the treatment take?
This is largely dependent on the size of the area being treated. A singular sessions can range anywhere from 15-45 minutes.
Do I need to do any special preparation in advance or after my treatment?
It is important to avoid tanning before and during the treatment period. Tanned skin will absorb more light which makes treatment less effective and less comfortable.
Does the treatment hurt?
Snapping of a rubber band is how patients typically describe the sensation. The Lutronic DermaV has a high-powered cooling system which makes treatment more comfortable than many other
lasers.
