Scotland-based vice chair of international body hails progress in aesthetic medicine to ensure more patients receive safe, effective care
The Complications in Medical Aesthetics Collaborative (CMAC), an organisation dedicated to raising standards and supporting practitioners in aesthetic medicine, has officially become a registered charity.
Established five years ago as a not-for-profit organisation, CMAC has grown to become a trusted global resource, uniting practitioners, educators, and researchers to advance patient safety in aesthetics. Its transition to charity status follows a year-long process designed to strengthen transparency, accountability, and sustainability for the organisation’s future.

The announcement comes ahead of CMAC’s Annual Conference 2025, which will be held on 17–18 October in Chicago, and bring together leading voices in complication management, safety protocols, and advanced clinical practice.
CMAC UK Vice Chair Dr Cormac Convery, founder of Ever Clinic in Glasgow, has played a pivotal role in the organisation’s growth. Widely recognised for his award-winning work in laser treatment for rhinophyma, Dr Convery has delivered life-changing outcomes for patients living with this disfiguring condition. His pioneering use of fully ablative laser resurfacing has set new standards in treatment and training.
He said: “At Ever Clinic we see the profound difference advanced treatments like laser surgery can make, not just to a patient’s skin, but to their confidence and quality of life.
“By becoming a charity, can expand its mission to educate more clinicians, strengthen safety across the industry, and ultimately ensure more patients receive safe, effective care.”
CMAC was founded by a team of acknowledged experts who together bring years of collective experience in aesthetic medicine, each with a specialist interest in complications.
Alongside the UK Board, CMAC has developed a Clinical Support Team and Global Faculty to provide members with unparalleled global insight and guidance.

Commenting on the importance of achieving charitable status, co-founder and UK Board Member Gillian Murray, a clinical prescribing pharmacist and academic at King’s College London, said: “When we set up CMAC, our goal was simple – to support practitioners and safeguard patients through education, collaboration, and evidence-based guidance.
“Over the past five years we’ve built a trusted network and developed invaluable resources for clinicians. Becoming a charity ensures this work is sustainable and transparent, and it allows us to expand projects that raise standards across the specialty.”
CMAC’s charitable mission is focused on:
- Supporting members with expert, evidence-based advice on managing complications.
- Providing trusted resources, including protocols, templates, and published guidelines.
- Delivering education through regular webinars and an annual international conference.
- Driving collaboration between clinicians worldwide to continually advance safety.
The CMAC Conference 2025 in Chicago will showcase this vision, offering delegates access to cutting-edge education, panel discussions, and case studies. Registration is open and tickets are exclusively to healthcare professionals, with attendees receiving free access to both the 2024 and 2025 conference recordings.
